Naoyuki Onda es un pianista y compositor japonés.

Los inquietantes teclados de Naoyuki Onda se entrelazan con un hermoso collage de shakuhachi, erhu, koto y otros instrumentos asiáticos, creando un paisaje rico y vivo de los sonidos en "Alas al Amanecer", su segundo lanzamiento en la etiqueta Pacific Moon.

Además de su anterior álbum ("Dream") también para  Pacific Moon, ha trabajado en varios proyectos de este sello como teclista en los álbumes "River" y "Rainbow" (de el famoso solista de erhu Jia Peng-Fang, con quien Onda ha menudo realiza conciertos), y como uno de los cuatro compositores que utilizan la escala musical pentatónica, también ha participado para Pacific Moon en los álbumes de compilación de piano, "Ancient City" y "Snow".

ALUMEA vio la luz en 2001 y toca, como ellos mismos dicen, "música folk acústica de origen celta". Se trata principalmente de música tradicional de Galicia. El repertorio incluye canciones existentes y composiciones propias, que van desde muñeiras, xotas, polkas, pasacorodoiras y rumbas pasando por marchas y fandangos hasta valses y mazurkas. Algunas canciones también se cantan, a veces a capella y a veces con acompañamiento. Para el apoyo rítmico, se hace uso de la pandeireta y el pandeiro, pero también de objetos domésticos como conchas, botellas, cuencos, platos, etc. El grupo ha colaborado con KADRIL en el proyecto "La paloma negra", sobre flamencos que viajaron a Compostela en el siglo XVI para librarse de sus pecados, y se alojaron en la posada flamenca "La paloma negra" y entonces se entabló una conversación con el “clima atractivo de Flandes”. Esta colaboración dio lugar a un doble CD en el que se pueden encontrar canciones y bailes tradicionales tanto flamencos como gallegos.

A los 25 años, Yokoyama comenzó a estudiar con Fukuda Rando, fundador de la Escuela Azuma y con Watazumido-doso, un legendario maestro Fuke que buscaba sintetizar la música y la espiritualidad shakuhachi en el contexto del Budismo Zen. Guiado por estos dos eminentes maestros, Yokoyama supo combinar el modernismo de Rando con el espíritu tradicional profundamente religioso de Watazumido en su formación. Con esta base, llegó a desarrollar un estilo notablemente poderoso y creativo que encarnaba ambos extremos del continuo. Un verdadero descendiente de la tradición Kinko transmitida de generación en generación, también fue pionero en una revolución en la música moderna que se extendió por el Japón de la posguerra.

En 1960, Yokoyama completó sus estudios en el NHK Japanese Traditional Music Training Center y, un año después, formó Shakuhachi San-Jyuso-dan, un trío dedicado a promover la nueva música para el instrumento. En 1963, fundó Nihon Ongaku Shudan (Grupo de música japonesa) y Shakuhachi Sanbon-kai (Grupo de tres Shakuhachi) con el maestro de Kinko Aoki Reibo y el maestro de Tozan Hozan Yamamoto. Este grupo histórico ayudó a establecer un nuevo género musical para el trío de shakuhachi.

En 1967, Yokoyama fue seleccionado por el renombrado compositor Toru Takemitsu para interpretar el estreno de "November Steps", su composición moderna para shakuhachi, biwa y orquesta dirigida por Seiji Ozawa y la Filarmónica de Nueva York. Desde su apertura hace más de treinta y cinco años, Yokoyama ha realizado esta pieza épica cientos de veces en todo el mundo.

Katsuya Yokoyama era el jefe del Gremio Chikushin-kai Shakuhachi. Ha recibido muchos premios prestigiosos, entre ellos el Geijutsu Sen-sho (Premio de Arte) en 1971, el Geijutsu-sai Yushu-sho (Premio a la Excelencia Artística) en 1972, el Geijutsu-sai Tai-sho (Festival de Arte Grand Premio) en 1973 otorgado por la Agencia de Asuntos Culturales y el Premio Ongaku no Tomo-sha en 1991.

En 1988, Yokoyama fundó el Centro Kokusai Shakuhachi Kenshu (Centro Internacional de Capacitación de Shakuhachi) ubicado en Bisei-cho, Okayama, Japón, donde organizó el primer Festival Internacional de Shakuhachi en 1993. Este evento precipitó la fundación de la Sociedad y Festival Mundial de Shakuhachi celebrado en Boulder , Colorado en 1998. En esta reunión, cinco de los más grandes maestros de shakuhachi del mundo, incluido Yokoyama, actuaron en un solo lugar por primera vez.

Iain Matthews (nacido Ian Matthews MacDonald , 16 de junio de 1946) es un músico y cantautor inglés. Fue miembro original de la banda de folk rock británica Fairport Convention de 1967 a 1969 antes de dejar y formar su propia banda, Matthews Southern Comfort, que alcanzó el número uno en el Reino Unido en 1970 con una versión de la canción " Woodstock " de Joni Mitchell . En 1979, su versión de "Shake It" de Terence Boylan alcanzó el puesto 13 en las listas estadounidenses.

The Hadouk are back, but this time, they are four. This is a beautiful revival and a total success for this group that keeps searching for new inspiration.

Sus inicios se remontan a 1990, cuando tres adolescentes de Sundsvall, Gotte Ringqvist, Stefan Brisland-Ferner y Rickard Westman, decidieron montar una banda tras quedar impresionados por el montaje musical de la obra "[Hamlet]".

Dos años más tarde, habían conseguido cierta popularidad local y decidieron probar suerte en el festival de música folk de Umeå (donde volverían a participar nuevamente varios años después). Consiguieron llamar la atención de un reportero radiofónico que les invitó al festival de Hultsfred.

Con motivo de su participación en este festival de música rock, se unió al grupo el batería Jens Höglin. En la noche de agosto de su actuación, consiguieron atraer no sólo la atención de la que sería más tarde su vocalista Emma Härdelin, sino también de Mats Hammerman, presidente de la discográfica Massproduktion, que les ofreció un contrato el mismo día.

Su primer disco fue publicado a principios de 1993, y se tituló "Garmarna". Recibió buenas críticas, por lo que se realizó una gira por todo el país.

Some people may believe that to meditate means "to do a sitting zen meditation", "to empty the mind" or "to empty the self". Is that what it's really about? It is true that after an austere ascetic training, Buddha sat under a Bodhi tree in a zen meditation and reached enlightenment. Buddha did not reach enlightenment because of the austerities he had performed. He had realized the meaninglessness of such austerities and concluded that one should not be so extreme in life, but should walk the middle path. Buddha sat under the Bodhi tree and pondered upon such matters as, "What is the universe?", "What is the cause of suffering?" and "What is the meaning of birth and death?" Of course, he must have been thinking and seeking the truth on a scale much bigger than we can imagine. Doing his zen meditation under the tree, Buddha had to fight with many things. These were things inherent in men, like greed for money, greed for power and other such greed. He won his battles and became enlightened to the Truth.

I believe it's very difficult for laymen to awaken to the truth through meditation. We just don't have the time or the heart to try. (That is why we need the time to free ourselves from thoughts that distract us.) But anyone of us can probably ponder deeply on the problems we are confronting through meditation. Buddha says in his teachings that there are causes, conditions and effec ts. It probably means, if you can understand what the problems and suffering are all about, then you can remove the causes and free yourself from them.

The sutras are philosophical writings of the truth that Buddha acquired through his enlightenment and written down by his disciples. Originally, Buddha's teachings were handed down in an oral tradition. The sutras had to be memorized by heart in order for the teachings to be transmitted accurately, and so the tradition of chanting the sutras out loud came into being. But the sounds of the sutras seem to have the effect of opening the chakras (energy centers) of the human body as well. For us laymen, it is extremely difficult to understand the meanings of the sutras accurately. But we can start out by listening to this CD. You may truthfully bring your past to mind and in all clearness look at here and now and think of the future as it should be for you. Or don't think about anything difficult, relax, close your eyes, make your breathing even, and let yourself be with the sounds of the chanting. You may just find yourself becoming enlightened like Buddha under the Bodhi tree.

Eileen Ivers nació en la ciudad de Nueva York el 13 de julio de 1965 de padres nacidos en Irlanda, se crió en el Bronx y asistió a la escuela de San Bernabé. Eileen pasaba los veranos en Irlanda y aprendió a tocar el violín a la edad de nueve años. Su maestro fue el violinista irlandés Martin Mulvihill. Ella estuvo de gira con la banda de Mick Moloney The Green Fields of América, fundada en 1977. Se graduó magna cum laude en el Iona College de Nueva York. 

Ivers fué miembro fundador de Cherish the Ladies. Con el grupo graba y gira durante varios años.

En 1995, sustituyó al violinista original en la compañía irlandesa de baile Riverdance y viajó con ellos.

Dadawa es el nombre artístico de Zhu Zheqin, cantante de reconocido prestigio tanto en China como en Occidente, referida como la “Enya o Björk china” por la crítica, y la primera cantante china en vender un millón de discos en su país.

Descubierta por el compositor He Xuntian, profesor de música de Shangai que durante veinte años se dedicó a recopilar música tibetana, fue el mismo Xuntian el que le introdujo en el Tibet y su cultura. Su primer trabajo grabado en China, Yellow Children (1992), fue muy bien acogido en su país. La experiencia tibetana se refleja tanto en Sister Drum, publicado en 1995, como en Voices From The Sky (1998), que se convierten en éxitos internacionales y le llevan a ser considerada como estrella de la música china. No obstante, el uso del folklore tibetano como base de sus grabaciones no les eximieron de polémica, tanto a Dadawa como a su productor He Xuntian, en el contexto de la ocupación del Tibet por parte de China. En su defensa, Dadawa reivindica su amor por la música y la cultura del Tibet más allá de cuestiones políticas.

Después de unos años de paréntesis, en agosto de 2006 lanza su álbum Seven Days (nominado en los "BBC World Music Award in 2007"), con un concepto musical más dirigido hacia las canciones tradicionales de origen chino, en el que conserva referencias líricas a las ideas budistas, pero conservando “su marca registrada”: melodías maravillosamente cantadas, percusión asiática e instrumentación clásica y electrónica.

     El legendario álbum folk autoeditado por este cuarteto de estudiantes de la Universidad de Edimburgo cuenta con connotaciones progresivas, de jazz y espirituales. Emitido en calidades limitadas (alrededor de 500), fue su único lanzamiento antes de disolverse en 1978. Muy apreciado por los fanáticos del folk ácido y el rock cristiano 

The Scottish group Caedmon’s only Ip rested in relative obscurity for years until one of the 500 copies turned up in the early ’90s. The band was contacted, a few stray copies were unearthed, and collector mania set in, aimed at procuring what some were proclaiming to be the best folkrock album ever recorded, Christian or otherwise. So does Caedmon live up to all the hype? Absolutely yes! Wow!

The professional standards set by this custom are so astonishing all other Christian folk albums sound anemic by comparison. The production, the arrangements, the playing, the songwriting, the enamoring vocals of lead singer Angela Naylor – everything on this album is A+ throughout. ‘Ten Maidens Fair’ opens in the roguish tradition of Steel eye Span as it tells Christ’s parable amid cascades of mandolin that duel with biting fuzz guitar – a frequent combination here that has lent folks to describing Caedmon’s music as “acid” or psychedelic folk. ‘Maker Man’ has a cool jazzy feel with some nice bongo accompaniment that’s prominent throughout the Ip.

‘Death Of A Fox’ introduces the proficient cello playing of Ken Patterson. This song is truly “progressive folkrock” – a fast aggressive piece with a melodic center section that combines classical mood with traditional Scottish jigs and reels One of the males takes over lead vocals for ‘Sea Song’, a touching ballad that evokes an air of sadness as a lone electric lead plays over soft keyboards and acoustic guitar. ‘Asian’ follows with a vengeance and some of the most lethal fuzz on the album. ‘Living In The Sunshine’ jams with a touch of funky syncopation. ‘Storm’ on the other hand is an intricate and mesmerizing folk/psych masterpiece that cites Mark 4:35-41 as its inspiration.

Mandolin and cello compete at breakneck speed in ‘Columbus Song’ which tells the story of a conflict between a druid and holy man. ‘Smile On Your Face’ provides some straightforward jamming British folkrock, while ‘Caedmon’s Hymn’ closes the Ip with a solemn meditative prayer backed by recorder and floating harmonies Two additional songs appear on a 45 that was originally included with the Ip – ‘Beyond The Second Mile’ (yet another evocative ballad that provides Angela’s most captivating vocal performance yet) and the Negro spiritual ‘Give Me Jesus’. Got all that? OK, the bad news: in the rare event that a copy does turn up it’s usually in the $1200+ range, Sigh. Ah, but there’s good news, too: the album was re-issued in 1994 on both vinyl and CD (and for considerably less than a house payment, too!). This re-issue includes both songs from the single. Obviously I’ve gone to great lengths here to describe this wonder Still it’s difficult to put these sounds into words that do it justice – there’s so much emotion and depth in here that can only come through the listening experience. I certainly hope you’ll have that opportunity.

B-Tribe, o The Barcelona Tribe of Soulsters, es un proyecto musical de los músicos y productores alemanes Claus Zundel, Markus Staab y Ralf Hamm ("The Brave"), quienes también son conocidos por su proyecto Sacred Spirit. Impulsado por el uso de la guitarra clásica española y otros elementos de la música flamenca, en particular, utilizando una mezcla directa de un CD pregrabado simplemente titulado Morente-Sabicas "Nueva York-Granada por músicos de renombre mundial; el vocalista Enrique Morente acompañado a la guitarra por Sabicas ... mezclado con melodías ambientales tipo trip hop. Todos los álbumes se grabaron en el propio estudio de Zundels en Ibiza, España. El músico español Paco Fernández toca la guitarra y las partes de violonchelo son interpretadas por el miembro de la Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, Eric Plummetaz.
