Wimme - Mun

L expérience chamanique. WIMME. Entendez le chant profond du joïk, ce chant de gorge ancestral des sami, revisités par un chaman prodigieux ! Entrez en Laponie. Une présence magique et fascinante Les horizons ethno-oniriques aux relents tribaux et aux émanations occultes, les tornades neigeuses ou les esquisses impressionnistes des aurores boréales... Un chien-loup parmi les rennes. WIMME a indéniablement replacé la culture sámi au centre de la "world music", et montré comment un chant aux origines lointaines, que des forces d'oppression ont voulu faire disparaître, était capable d'assurer sa pérennité en imposant son écho rustique dans une perspective créative tournée vers l'avenir. On a coutume de désigner par le terme "joik" le chant traditionnel sámi dans son ensemble. En fait, la tradition musicale sámi compte au moins trois modes de chants et le joik n'est que l'und'entre eux. Celui de WIMME provient de la tradition "luohti", du Nord du territoire sámi. Le joik luohtise caractérise par son utilisation de la gamme pentatonique sans demi-tons et par ses textes, qui évoquent l'essence, l'esprit d'une personne, d'un animal ou d'un lieu. Comme on peut s'en douter, lejoik est évidemment lié à la spiritualité sámi et c'est pourquoi, autant dans sa forme que dans son fond, on le compare aux chants traditionnels des Amérindiens, dont les valeurs spirituelles sont du reste assez proches de celles des Sámi (la nature y tient une place privilégiée).

Adrian Raso & Fanfare Ciocarlia - Devil's Tale - 2014 - Romania - Canada

Legend has it that the Devil likes to frequent crossroads, cutting deals for souls and spinning his cunning yarns. Yet not all crossroad pacts are diabolical; some are just damned brilliant. Take the crossroads encounter behind Devil s Tale, where the eastern force field of Balkan brass meets Gypsy Jazz guitar, as Romania's Fanfare Ciocarlia joins up with Canadian guitarist Adrian Raso.

Fanfare Ciocarlia are a 24-legged brass beast whose eastern funk groove has torn up halls and festivals across the planet. Raso is a master guitarist, deeply versed in the French Manouche / Gypsy Jazz stylings of Django Reinhardt. 

Could a string musician find a way into Fanfare's fierce Balkan brass blast? Could the legends of brass adapt their horns to the fluid eloquence of a jazz guitarist? The answer, as heard on this album, is one of brilliant defiance. 

Adrian Raso has dreamt of this project for years. The gifted guitarist possesses a vast musical vocabulary rooted in Gypsy Jazz yet, in his fleet fingers, capable of referencing metal, Latin, funk and his family's Italian tarantella roots. Raso built his virtuoso reputation playing Toronto's toughest clubs as a teenager. More than two decades later he remains on a musical quest that demands he challenge himself. 

The quest lead to him reaching out to Fanfare Ciocarlia - the Romany Gypsy orchestra from the invisible village of Zece Prajini in north eastern Romania - who blast a fierce, very individual brand of Balkan brass. Both Raso and Fanfare share a love of Django and big band jazz but initial concerns surrounded whether their very different backgrounds would allow for a common musical dialogue to ensure. Meeting the band was a great experience, says Raso. We bonded instantly. We joked about being separated brothers as it really did feel like that. Musically we understood each other from the get go. Fanfare Ciocarlia are the world's greatest Balkan brass band. When a band is at the top, the undisputed heavyweight champion, they have two options: either get lazy and repeat themselves or seek out new challenges. Fanfare Ciocarlia are hungry men and, having seen too many Balkan brass bands descend into the farce of playing-standards-too-fast or allowing tone deaf DJs to exploit them as decoration over a lame electronic beat, they chose to broaden Balkan brass's vocabulary. Meeting Adrian Raso gave Fanfare the perfect musical foil. 

Across several chilly Toronto days the Romanians and the Canadian came together. Raso called in several heavy friends to contribute to sessions. These included legendary guitarists John Jorgenson and Rodrigo (of Rodrigo & Gabriela) and rock drummer Kevin Figueiredo (of Extreme). 

This album - reaching down to New Orleans, across the Atlantic to Paris, deep into the Balkans and back through decaying Detroit to Toronto's grandeur - is the result. Raso's guitar sets off on a fluid journey, caressing and cajoling the horns who tell tales of a music that has ancestors in Africa and India, one shaped in old Europe and young America. Yu Hong Mei - Erhu Chant

Yu Hong Mei has won many awards during her brilliant career. Most recently, she won the China Golden Record Award for Best Solo Recording. She is the recipient of the Pro Musicis International Award in New York City (2001). She is the first Chinese musician to win the coveted Indie Award (1999) in the category of Best Traditional World Music for the CD String Glamour. Another solo CD, Red Plum Blossom Capriccio, won the Best Chinese Musical Art Production in 1998. Her other awards include the 1989 Chinese Traditional Music Competition for Erhu and the 1997 Taipei Concerto Competition

Yu Hong Mei was a soloist with the Chinese National Traditional Orchestra on their 2000 American Tour. Later that year, the same orchestra went to Paris for the China Cultural Arts Concert. She has given several solo and concerto concerts with other prestigious groups such as the China Philharmonic Orchestra, the China National Symphony Orchestra and the Chinese Traditional Orchestra of Hong Kong. She has participated in numerous national and international festivals, such as the International Computer Music Conference in Hong Kong (1996) and in Beijing (1999), the Art Festival of Macao, the Kurashiki International Music Festival in Japan, Beijing Modern Music Week, and many more.

She has introduced Chinese music to audiences in such prestigious concert halls as Avery Fisher Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York, the Eisenhower Theatre at the Kennedy Arts Centre in Washington DC, Chicago Symphony Orchestra Centre, Davis Symphony Hall in San Francisco, Symphony Hall, Boston, and the Theatre des Champs-Elysees in Paris She has always been highly praised for her wonderful performances.

Steve Shehan & Baly Othmani - Assikel - 2008


"Assikel, de Bali à Baly" met en musique et en images, le chemin parcouru par Steve Shehan de Bali, l'île de l'Indonésie, à Baly, l'homme "bleu", sur le thème de la recherche identitaire. La musique est une rencontre d'instruments qui mettent en valeur une autre approche de la liberté de créer dépassant les limites de l'appartenance. Baly nous a quitté le 18 juin 2005 et c'est pour honorer sa mémoire et aller jusqu'au bout du rêve et de son engagement que Steve Shehan sort ce nouvel album inédit rendant hommage à ce grand poète du désert. Tourné dans le Sahara, à Paris, et à New-York, avec une multitude d'images et de photos d'archives, ce documentaire regroupe une vingtaine de témoignages de personnes qui ont croisé et bousculé, d'une façon ou d'une autre, le chemin de Steve Shehan.

ALA.NI – You & I - 2016

De origen de Granada (país que no ciudad española), criada en Londres y con enorme apego por Paris ALA.NI se ha embarcado en una suerte de retro soul un tanto especial ya que su base es el jazz vocal de los años 30 a 50 y los musicales americanos de tales datas pero adaptado de forma exquisita y genial a los tiempos modernos que corren.

No es una mera artista de disco y obra de jazz vocal tan pulido y aséptico en busca de servir de canal sonoro para viejos financieros neoyorquinos ni snobs de whisky de malta. Tampoco forma parte soul fandanguero de chasquidos de dedos que se aplaude por las masas que no saben quién es Otis Redding. Ella es algo tan simple como ARTE EN ESTADO PURO Tras una carrera de corista, el año pasado se despacha con una serie de eps coincidiendo con la llegada de las estaciones del año (SPRING, SUMMER, AUTUMN AND WINTER) que desembocan en el lp de próxima aparición YOU AND I que los reúne con nuevas grabaciones en un formato especial de doble cd.

DIVAS como JUDY GARLAND, LENA HORNE, ESTHER PHILLIPS, LAVERN BAKER, la admitirían sin lugar género de dudas a su grupo de damas de sensibilidad extrema. No es jazz, ni es soul, ni blues ni gospel aunque si son parte de ella. Un recorrido por sonidos de eras de blanco y negro con la salvedad de que la ausencia de adornos y su tono minimalista los convierte en algo actual y más asequible en tiempos de la High Definition
