Clinton Fearon & Boogie Brown Band - Give And Take - 2004 - Jamaica

Clinton Fearon and the Boogie Brown hails out of Seattle, Washington nowadays, but the music he produces and offers comes straight from Jamaica. Give and Take, Mr. Fearon's latest release from the northwest, gives a modern day flavor from a recipe from yesteryear. Notable is the variety of styles that Mr. Fearon, a former member of The Gladiators band, offers, from the beautiful rocksteady inspired "Parable Sound", which makes one smile and remember The Ethiopians sweet melodies, to the playful and crying "Feel the Spirit" which gives the classical reggae beat that everyone seeks to find.

Infused throughout the album are sweet musical instrumentals that captivate the reggae mind and imagination. The Boogie Brown band has evolved into a sweet reggae machine with Clinton Fearon as the Captain commanding the way over snaky, twisting bass rhythms.

Mr. Fearon states in the repetitively hypnotic "Movin' Up", "In this world of competition, there is no recognition." Where this may speak some truth in our current societal system, it is just due to give him the recognition he deserves for putting out a great album. A very fine addition to any respectful reggae collection.

Terrakota - World Massala - 2010

In June 2010, Terrakota celebrated its 10th birthday with the avant-première of the documentary ‘On top of the world – Roadmovie of Terrakota in the Himalayas’ about the band’s adventures in India and with a big, three-hour long concert in Lisbon with a battery of guests. That same month, the bands first single of it’s upcoming fourth album came out, ‘World Massala’, a first product of the band’s trip to India. The single is a groundbreaking musical fusion that might never have been done before: Punjabi afro-reggae. Bridging the gap between India and Jamaica, but also between Rajasthani folk and classical India. While the gypsy musicians of Rajasthan Roots take care of the rhythm and give the song some authentic gypsy guts, the carnatic singers Mahesh Vinyakram and Bollywood-star Vasundhara Das take the song to new mystical heights.
The single announced the arrival of the fourth studio album, “WORLD MASSALA” (2010), recorded and produced and released in October 2010 by Ojo Música/Galileo Music Communication. On this new work, Terrakota keeps on mashing up frontiers to bring together music and people from around the world, expanding their musical horizons to Rajasthan, Angola, classical India, urban Cuba, and beyond. Terrakota’s Afro/world mestizo explosion now also has a proper term: world massala! World standing for world music and massala for the fusion, as massala is a mixture of species used a lot in Indian cuisine. The recipe? Bringing new innovative musical fusions without any fear of experiment, just jamming until you find a formula where ancient musical traditions embrace the 21st century.

Other than the Indian guests, the album includes recordings with the Angolan singer-songwriter Paulo Flores, the Cuban rapper Kumar and keyboard, bass and brass from the Lisbon-based funkband Cool Hipnoise. That song with brass is a powerful afrobeat, born in the wake of the band’s side-project, the KotaCool Afrobeat Orchestra, that has done some powerful gigs around Lisbon since 2009.

Scientist Meets The Roots Radics - Scientist Meets The Roots Radics - 1981 - Jamaica

Brown (Scientist) was introduced to electronics by his father, who worked as a television and radio repair technician. He began building his own amplifiers and would buy transformers from Tubby's Dromilly Road studio, and while there would keep asking Tubby to give him a chance at mixing. He was taken on at Tubby's as an assistant, performing tasks such as winding transformer coils, and began working as a mixer in the mid-1970s, initially creating dubs of reworked Studio One riddims for Don Mais' Roots Tradition label, given his chance when Prince Jammy cut short a mixing session for Mais because he was too tired to continue. The first hit record that he mixed wasBarrington Levy's "Collie Weed".
He left King Tubby's studio at the end of the 1970s and became the principal engineer for Channel One Studio when hired by the Hoo Kim brothers, giving him the chance to work on a 16-track mixing desk rather than the four tracks at Tubby's.

He came to prominence in the early 1980s and produced many albums, his mixes featuring on many releases in the first part of the decade. In particular, he was the favourite engineer of Henry "Junjo" Lawes, for whom he mixed several albums featuring the Roots Radics, many based on tracks by Barrington Levy. He also did a lot of work for Linval Thompson and Jah Thomas. In 1982 he left Channel One to work at Tuff Gong studio as second engineer to Errol Brown. He then emigrated to the Washington, D.C. area in 1985, again to work in studios as a sound engineer.

Judy Mowatt - Only A Woman - 1982 - Jamaica

Judy Mowatt - Black Woman - 1980 - Jamaica

Su voz condimentó trabajos de Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Big Youth, Pablo Moses, Freddie McGregor, U-Roy, and the Wailing Souls.

Third World - Journey To Addis - 1978 - Jamaica

Calypso - Vintage Songs From the Caribbean - 2002

Tracks list:
01. Don't Touch Me Tomato - George Symonette - Bahamas
02. Yes, Yes, Yes - Calypso Mama - Bahamas
03. Take Me Back To Jamaica - The Jolly Boys - Jamaica
