Desde el cántico de los monjes Yakushiji que abre el album, es evidente que este va a ser un ofrecimiento especial de Kitaro. El álbum del legendario pionero de la World Music es un album de dos CDs registrado en más de tres tardes en el Templo sagrado Yakushiji en la antigua capital japonesa de Nara. Con plena instrumentación, Kitaro ofrece nueve composiciones favoritas de sus álbumes más tempranos, más el tema Premiado con un Globo de Oro de la película de Oliver Stone Cielo y Tierra y dos temas nuevos, Este es un viaje de fuerza para Kitaro y su conjunto. Todo el drama, la espiritualidad y la humanidad de sus temas habituales están aquí con la urgencia añadida de la grabación en vivo y el espíritu profundo de los monjes Yakushiki que aparecen en el nuevo tema "Wa" además de la pista que abre el album. Live in Yakushiji es un viaje amplio y profundo, a reinos interiores así como a destinos terrenales exóticos.

Yakushi-ji, one of the most famous imperial and ancient Buddhist temples in Japan, is the headquarters of the Hosso school of Japanese Buddhism.

It is part of the sites that collectively constitute the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara.

The temple'ts name is derived from its main object of veneration, Yakushi Nyorai, also named "The Medicine Buddha", one of first Buddhist Deities to arrive in Japan from China in 680.

Idris Ackamoor and the Pyramids - An Angel Fell

Strut presents the brand new album from cosmic jazz travellers The
Pyramids, led by saxophonist Idris Ackamoor, ’An Angel Fell’. “I wanted to use folklore, fantasy and drama as a warning bell,” explains Ackamoor.

“The songs explore global themes that are important to me and to us all: the rise of catastrophic climate change and our lack of concern for our planet, loss of innocence and separation... but positive themes too, the healing power of music, collective action and the simple beauty of nature.”

Produced by Malcolm Catto of The Heliocentrics, the album was recorded during an intense week at Quatermass studios in London and is one of the deepest, richest works yet from a band reaching their highest creative peak since the early ’70s. Some of the many highlights include the poignant title track depicting a fallen angel in purgatory, outrage and grief on the powerful, hard hitting ‘Soliloquy For Michael Brown’ and the lilting, beautiful album closer, ‘Sunset’.

The Pyramids originally came together in 1972 at Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio where teachers included renowned pianist, Cecil Taylor.

After forming in Paris and embarking on a “cultural odyssey” across Africa, the group recorded three independent albums, ‘Lalibela’ (1973), ‘King Of Kings’ (1974) and ‘Birth / Speed / Merging’ (1976) and became renowned for their striking live shows, mixing percussive, spiritual and space-age jazz with performance theatre and dance. After migrating to San Francisco, they disbanded in 1977. 35 years later, the band reunited in 2012 following growing demand for their music from vinyl collectors.

German label Disko B released the freeform album ‘Otherwordly’ and in 2016, they released their first album for Strut, the acclaimed ‘We Be All Africans’.

Sierra Leone´s Refugee All Stars - Radio Salone - 2012

Sierra Leone´s Refugee All Stars constituyen una de las mejores y más creativas bandas africanas de lo que llevamos de siglo. Radio Salone no es más que la confirmación de que este grupo, formado a raíz del drama, se ha convertido en una auténtica banda que representa esa luz, ese optimismo y esa filosofía vital inherente al pueblo africano de los que la gente occidental carecemos.

Formado en 1997 en el campo de refugiados de Kalia, en Guinea-Conakri, con guitarras donadas por una asociación canadiense, Sierra Leone´s Refugee All Stars es una historia conmovedora desde el principio. La banda comenzó, bajo la batuta de Reuben M. Koroma y Francis John Langba (al que dedican éste último disco) como una forma de entregar una pequeña esperanza a la gente que huía de la despiadada guerra civil de su país. Así que el grupo significa esperanza, pero también divertimento y frescura musical.

Su anterior trabajo, Rise & Shine (Cumbancha, 2010) ya fue un trabajo que supo aunar, como pocos, los sonidos de África Occidental con el reggae. Con este tercer disco, maduran, fortalecen y exploran esa propuesta musical como nunca antes se había hecho. Su casual encuentro como refugiados, en un principio, propició que las maletas sonoras que portaba cada miembro fueran muy distintas, lo que propicia que el sonido de la banda también lo sea. De ahí que soukous (rumba africana), soul, maringa y la típica polirritmia africana, se encuentren de manera natural, fluida y prodigiosa con el dub o el reggae clásico.

En Radio Salone cantan en krio (Salone se refiere a Sierra Leona en su lengua materna) entre otras lenguas y, para acabar de seducirnos, homenajean a la radio, de la que cuentan que fue su conexión con el mundo musical en la era pre-internet. Gracias a todo eso les ha salido un brebaje que sabe a soukous, dub o reggae destinado al baile, tal y como eran los sonidos de las ondas de Sierra Leona en la década de 1970.

Si lo estrictamente musical supone que estamos ante uno de los discos del año 2012, a nivel de producción le sucede exactamente lo mismo. Radio Salone fue grabado en Brooklyn bajo la producción de Victor Axelrod, también conocido como Ticklah (responsable del sonido de artistas como Amy Winehouse o Easy Star All Stars), con un equipo analógico de 16 pistas y micrófonos especiales de los años 70' , que no se cerraron durante las sesiones de grabación, invitando de esta forma a oyentes a sumarse al viaje creativo que supusieron aquellas jornadas.

Así que... cierren internet, enciendan la radio... y disfruten de esta maravillosa gente.
