Tigran Hamasyan - For Gyumri

Even on this shorter album, Armenian pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan displays a tireless ambition with his compositions, performances and eclectic approach. Over the course of his career, this young artist has released a wildly diverse stylistic set of releases that portray his eclectic and sometimes contrasting music tastes. The muse knows no borders or limits for this gifted pianist. While his first releases—starting with World Passion (Nocturne Records, 2006), and New Era (Blu Jazz, 2007)—showcased his considerable talent in jazz, his third and breakthrough album Aratta Rebirth (Plus Loin, 2009) portrayed his taste for composing works of a true fusion nature. It's here that he began fusing his love for jazz with traditional melodies from his native Armenia. Since then his worldview expanded considerably and he has relentlessly followed his muse where the rich and timeless musical heritage of his homeland would serve as constant inspiration for his music, regardless how eclectic and diverse it has become.

Martin Hayes - Under the Moon

Martin returned to County Clare to record Under the Moon, gaining the accompaniment of his father, famed fiddler P.J. Hayes, and guitarist Steve Cooney. He is also joined by his American musical partners, accordion virtuoso John Williams and Portland guitarist/fiddler Randal Bays. This album contains all the spirit and eloquence of his eponymous debut and adds even more passion. No one can get inside a tune--be it barndance, jig or reel--like Martin Hayes. Under the Moon is an album that stirs the heart and electrifies the mind! 1995.

The Yuval Ron Ensemble & Najwa Gibran - Under the Olive Tree - 2004

The sacred musical traditions of Judaism, Sufism (Islamic mystical tradition) and the Christian Armenian Church are joined together into an extraordinary harmonious world of its own. A Song of Sufi origin from Turkey is sung both in Arabic and Hebrew, a Jewish prayer from Morocco is introduced by an Armenian chant and a Yemenite Jewish prayer receives a gripping clarinet solo in the best tradition of the Armenian performance style.

Arranged by composer and world-music record producer Yuval Ron, these tracks are all about emotion and passion. It is soulful mystical music that touches upon the ancient and deep inter-cultural connection the three sacred traditions share.

As the Middle East remains a region saturated with conflict and hatred The Yuval Ron Ensemble is releasing an unusual CD uniting the sacred music of the three religions of the Middle East. Since their stirring presentation at the World Festival of Sacred Music in LA last September, the ensemble focused on re-creating the live concert experience in the recording studio environment.

The multi-ethnic ensemble features the great Middle Eastern singer Najwa Gibran (recently appeared on the soundtrack of Helen of Troy) and Armenian woodwind master Norik Manoukian (featured duduk player on Dead Man Walking soundtrack).
